According to the latest Hitwise stats, the company has a 29% share of the US multimedia entertainment market and YouTube videos account for 60% of all videos watched online.
"No one can tell that there's no market for what we offer," Phon says. "People are using these services; they're eating them up like the introduction of Razor cell phones. The only they're not doing is getting paid for it like the members of PhonOnline.com."
So, with such tremendous ongoing success these social communities experience, even during the beginning stages of a seemingly impenetrable online innovation, why haven't larger social communities implemented some sort of compensation program for their members as of yet?
"They're too well-known," Phon says. "And they're free. Few people want to pay for a glass of water unless they're desperate enough or unless you can improve its value significantly. But if that same glass of water was always at a price from the time of its realization, you would sell more glasses. Because it's new. It would be normal. Then, if you later decided to give some away for free, you triple its value because they knew what it normally costs to get one."
Even with that, Phon admits that there are a few flaws. His idea could catch on and many other social communities will start paying their members monthly residuals like PhonOnline. That would mean intense competition if sites like YouTube and MySpace ever jumped on the bandwagon. Thoughts like these, however, only strengthen Phon's resolve.
"These social community giants have one flaw?they're already too big. No one knows PhonOnline exists, except for business affiliates, and that is by design because we haven't launched yet.
